Instead of wondering about things not working out, what if you considered what could go right. What if things were to come together in your favor. Your hopes, your dreams, all coming together in God’s perfect time – that’s a beautiful dream and a beautiful way to think.
You know we don’t get brownie points for thinking realistically or anticipating things not working out, right? That’s negative faith, also known as fear.
But what if we considered what is in our mind’s eye, our dreams, our hopes, and used God’s Word to see how they measure up. If they honor God and are in line with His Laws, work towards them and cultivate them. Ask God to lead us through what He puts on our hearts and then really lean in, confident that He will bring things together as He sees fit.
Instead of pondering the many ways things could fall apart, we could dream about what could go right!
I Know The Plans
God has plans to prosper us and give us hope! Considering what could go right is living with hope. Looking for God to show up in every little detail of our lives is only one way that we take God at His Word.
Living with hope and expectancy helps to grow our faith. And as we live with hope and expectancy, it is important to take action. To show up and put in the work that is required, even when we don’t know the end results.
Think about it this way, when you are in school you hope and plan to graduate, right? But you don’t just stop at hoping and planning, you actually study, take classes and do your best to ace tests! You anticipate what could go right!
There is such hope to be found in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” God has specific and beautiful plans for our good, for our future, and to give us hope! He even goes so far as to say that He doesn’t plan disastrous things for us!
Real Life Application
Can we just be real for a moment? I can know these things – Jeremiah 29:11 – and many, many other faithful, loving words from God and yet I can still struggle. And when I struggle, I feel as if I’m not believing God to be Who He says He is. Yet the weight of the world and what all is going on (or even how nothing is changing) is very real.
How do we handle times like these? How can we hold fast to God’s truths even when our dreams and hopes seem to be taking so long to come to pass? Perhaps by surrendering those hopes and dreams, while we work hard to represent well where He has us.
The truth of the matter is, He isn’t surprised with where He has us. He isn’t sitting up in heaven surprised that the right man hasn’t come into our lives, our dream job hasn’t worked out, or that we failed a test. He knows and He has it handled. It is all a specific part of our journey, and it is our job to do it exceptionally well, even when we don’t get it.
So keep on considering what could go right, anticipate things working out in remarkable ways, seek God and follow His lead. No matter your dream just remember, if it’s meant to be you can’t escape it and if it’s not meant to be you can’t force it. But it’s up to you to surrender your affections to God and walk in the way He would have you go!
Surrendering vs Giving Up
Let me just add, when you surrender things to God, you simply make sure that you are keeping Him first in your life. On the other hand, giving up is throwing your hopes and dreams out the window because things aren’t coming together in your timeline. Never give up!
When you surrender, you submit your hopes and dreams to God, acknowledging His sovereignty in your life, asking Him to guide your mind and your heart as He sees fit. But also, boldly ask that He bring about what is on your heart, knowing that your goal is to please and honor Him more than get your own way. That’s true surrender!
Surrendering your affections to God brings peace and an incredible adventure that you don’t want to miss! Instead of worrying about what you are missing out on, anticipate what could go right where God has you!
Until Next Time!
Hope.
