Should Christians get involved in politics? This is an age old pondering (and potentially touchy topic), yet at the same time it is so vital to our country’s continuation.
This simple question reminds me of the separation of church and state argument that I used to study in school. Let’s consider some hard truths and get ourselves in gear to step up and serve God remarkably well in every area of our lives.
Should Christians Get Involved in Politics?
Yes and absolutely. It is our responsibility to represent God well in every area of our lives and I would think that leadership would be doubly important!
Consider Moses leading the people through the wilderness. Remember how his father-in-law recommended that he set up different tiers of leaders to guide the people so it wasn’t so much of a strain on Moses? That strikes me as a representation of government.
Or what about the Kings that we read about throughout the Old Testament. Remember the whole, he did what was right before God and tore down all the high places. What about those who did not obey God? The people suffered horribly – perhaps much like today.
There are countless examples of Godly leaders and wicked leaders throughout the Bible. I cannot imagine that Christians would ponder the importance of involving themselves in government. I believe that if something impacts your life, then it is your responsibility to represent God in it. True, not every Christian is called to be politician, but rather, we need God-fearing political representatives just as surely as we need God-fearing doctors and teachers.
Politics are Dirty
Politics are awful and the insanity that goes on is mind blowing. And yet, we’ve set them up for this by not getting involved and helping hold a higher standard! I don’t believe that the politics of our country started out this way. But rather, we as Christians got lazy, didn’t sign up to do the work, and then others who don’t fear God stepped in to fill the void.
Basically, we have brought this on ourselves. There is a way out, but it is going to take even more work than if we had just remained faithful in our duties to begin with. It is going to take a strong spine and sturdy character to stay true to our Christian values.
But remember – God always gives us a way of escape, and I truly believe we have one here! So let’s rise up with wings like eagles and give our best and our all to fight to take back our country away from the lunacy and return to core Christian values!
Politics are dirty because we have allowed them to become so. Churches have lost their strength because they have been infiltrated by lukewarm doctrine. Families are broken because people don’t understand or even seem to know basic, foundational Christian principles. But the change can begin with you!
The City on the Hill
Reclaiming American government to be represented by God-fearing Christians is going to be a process and take time, and you can play a vital part. Perhaps the first step is to realize that Christians need to get involved in politics and then encouraging those around you to step up and get active!
Charlie Kirk had a revolutionary thought the other day when he said something along the lines of, “What if your government was as conservative as you are?” That thought quite literally blew my mind! I believe the founding fathers established just such a government! But where did it go? I believe Christians got lazy and quit doing their work. So now, let’s challenge and encourage fellow Christians to step up and not just vote, but get involved in politics!
We are called to be the city on the hill, but right now I’m kind of embarrassed of our city. I don’t want it to be in the spotlight for the stupid and crazy things that are going on. That certainly doesn’t honor God.
What Can One Person Do
But what can one person do, you might wonder? Don’t be fooled, one person has the potential to make a world of difference! God isn’t asking you to try to change the world by your own power, but simply follow where He leads with courage and boldness.
Pray – ask God what He would have you do. There is help needed at every level of government and sometimes the simplest roles boost a campaign in unbelievable ways!
Pay attention and get educated on what is going on. Jim Clyburn has been in DC far too long and he isn’t representing the people of his district at all. While he gets richer they get poorer. I’m sure this story is true of far more politicians in numerous other districts. Get involved and help change the story!
Get to know your local candidates. Attend events, donate to their campaigns, volunteer to help spread the word, etc. Teamwork makes the dream work!
The truth is it takes a whole lot of work to be in politics, but even more work to be a Christian in politics. But imagine the victory in store, the blessing that a nation that wholeheartedly serves God might reap! Just imagine what kind of city on the hill that might reflect God for the whole world to see!
And it all comes together because someone like you decided to step up and fight the good fight!
So what do you think – should Christians get involved in politics? Personally, I don’t see how they can afford not to.
This isn’t about a power rush or fame for them, but rather about helping a nation remember they are accountable to God for every single thing.
When you live a life that pleases and honors God, everything else falls into place!
Until Next Time!
Hope.
