Sometimes our mind races, concerns pop up, worst-case-scenarios play in our heads. And sometimes it’s over the smallest things. We’ve learned to choose faith in the big things that could potentially be very concerning. But what about the little things? The pesky ones that almost don’t deserve mention? I can’t help but think those are just as important to make the deliberate effort to choose faith, reject fear and declare good things!
In Work
You might work an office job, own a business, be a student, or any variety of other situations. No matter what we do, we must choose faith over fear. Faith brings a calm, a reassurance that as long as we focus on God and His ways, He’ll hold us in the palm of His hand.
Perhaps there are petty people where you work. To me, pettiness is annoying. Personalities can clash and having to work with someone you don’t click with can be tiring. But perhaps you need to take a deep breath and remember God is in charge and He knows where you work as well as with whom you work. Sometimes things aren’t about your comfort, but rather about the example you can be to another.
Another key area that to me doesn’t seem that big a deal but can be taxing is time-consuming paperwork and bookwork. Unless this is your area of expertise and what you specifically choose to do in life, I think you might know what I mean. Even if you love the paperwork, etc in your job, my guess is there is another aspect that isn’t your favorite – perhaps cleanup or some such.
No matter what it is, jump in, do it well, choose faith over dread. Faith that God knows where He has you and knows what He needs you to do. Do your work unto the Lord!
In Life
Oh my goodness, life. Home life, grocery shopping, getting the mail, helping each other, etc. It can mean the world to some and be the largest thorn in the flesh to others. Faith and love say I’m happy to serve those dearest to me, my family is hand-picked by God. Fear says it never ends, there’s always more to do.
I learned long ago that we need to change our dialogue to ourselves. Our conversations can make or break our attitudes and mentalities. Begin to really listen to what you are saying. Choose faith over fear, blessings over complaints.
Instead of getting frustrated that you have so much to do, change the dialogue that you get to do these things. You get to do them because you are alive and well. You get to do them because God has equipped and called you specifically for such a time as this.
It’s interesting, but I don’t think much in life is over-the-top-glamorous. Reading history, talking to people, I’ve come to realize that even the most incredible stories have a ton of everyday moments surrounding them. Lean in to where you are and ask God to help you better appreciate it! Choose faith in where God has you and how He has equipped you over the fear of what you might think you are missing out on.
In Relationships
Ah, relationships. What can we say about this, how can we choose faith over fear? It is important to understand the depth of a relationship – casual, close friend, family, etc. You will get hurt if you try to be close friends with someone who is only a casual friend.
That being said, choose faith in relationships by showing up and being a good friend, while also understanding the depth of the relationship. Don’t be needy or petty. Remember that in good relationships, you give your best and you don’t sit around grading the other person. Ideally quality people will attract quality relationships so this isn’t as much a concern, but it is important to keep in mind.
Relationships are precious and special, but also quite casual to others, so pay attention. Don’t let your feelings get crushed, careful not to set yourself up for failure. If you want a friend, be sure to be a friend. And remember, some – maybe even many – friendships are only for a time. People grow at different speeds so it is doesn’t make sense to assume you will have all your friends for life.
All in all, let’s choose faith over fear. Confidence in God over petty feelings. He holds us in the palm of His hand if we will seek Him and obey His Word!
Until Next Time!
Hope.
