Southern Fabric blog

Southern Fabric is a gem of an online fabric shop! They offer the most pleasing combinations of fabric prints and colors! If you are at all crafty – or even dream of being someday! – you should definitely visit their website: https://southernfabric.com/

Their Story

My grandmother was a quilter, so she instilled a love of fabric in all of us girls at a young age. I still remember going to visit her and being told I may pick enough fabric to fill a bag from her sewing room. That bag would be bursting at the seams before I left!

When my grandmother came to visit, she would take us to Walmart or JoAnn’s to pick out a few pieces of fabric. Funny, though it was more than twenty-five years ago, I still remember this particular fabric that I picked. It was intriguing to me because it was available in the same pattern in multiple colors! Fabric that coordinated! Such fun!

Nowadays fabric bundles are available in many different varieties: neutrals, brights, pastels, patriotic, etc. But years ago, they were not. That is where the woman who started Southern Fabric came on the scene! She started creating her own fabric bundles to make finding coordinating fabrics easier! What a beautiful thing to do!

Be sure to subscribe to Southern Fabrics emails. Not only will they alert you to new fabric and deals they are running, but they will be some of the prettiest emails in your inbox!

Precuts

Precuts are stacks of cut coordinating fabric. They are perfect for projects for those short on time – or even just those who don’t love cutting fabric (like me!). They are gorgeously consistently sized and allow you to get started on your sewing right away!

There are many different sizes and styles of precuts and they have fun names! For instance, a stack of basic 10 x 10 inch blocks is called a Layer Cake. Jelly Roll precuts are strips of fabric 2.5 x 44 inches and is what I used when making my braided rug.

There is a sweet little stack of 5 x 5 inch square blocks called a Charm Pack, for which I have a particular weakness! There is just something so cute and tempting about a stack of coordinating blocks begging to be sewn together!

Larger pieces of coordinating fabrics are available in stacks called Fat Quarters and Fat Eighths. There really is so much to see!

Project Ideas

In addition to quilts and lap blankets, there are many other projects that you can do with these beautiful coordinating fabrics! A simple search online will yield many ideas, but here are a few: a braided rug, place mats, table runner, bags, potholders, pillows, etc.

Sewing projects can be a lot of fun – especially when you have a great source for your fabric, like southernfabric.com!

Until Next Time!

Hope.
