If you have been looking for a fun outing for your family, let me tell you about First Thursday in downtown Walterboro!
As the name suggests, the First Thursday of the month merchants of the shops downtown get together to host a special opportunity to come visit after hours. Vendors line the streets, food trucks come to help feed the crowds, and you’ll probably even hear music via a live performance or a talented disc jockey.
People come in from neighboring towns to visit and enjoy the inviting downtown. Big city lights have nothing on small town charm. If you don’t come with friends, you’re sure to make some while you are here!
Streets are blocked off so kids can play without worry of traffic. Sometimes face painting or sidewalk chalk is offered, other times magic mirrors and additional fun attractions! We’ve even had kid entrepreneurs be the focus of our event one month – and, wow, were they a success!
Some months classic cars come downtown to show off their good looks. From Bel Airs to Corvettes the guys enjoy checking them out while the gals shop and visit. A truly successful and enjoyable event includes something for everyone, right?!
Each month we have a theme – for instance September was all about sports! We encourage visitors and participants alike to show their team spirit by wearing jerseys or team colors.
First Thursday is a fun chance to meet up with old friends and enjoy our picturesque, historic downtown. Nothing quite showcases small town, Southern charm quite like the friendliness and hospitality you will find.
The downtown merchants want to thank the vendors and participants for helping us create an exciting and enjoyable event! Thank you to the shop and restaurant owners for your long hours and inviting environments! And thank you to the city for working with us to make Walterboro a place worth visiting! Without each of you, this wouldn’t be what it is!
