Don’t Resist Reality

Don’t resist reality if you want to live your best life. What is reality? What is real and right before you. Where God has you, who He has you working with, what He has you doing, etc.

To a certain extent, we can adjust things in our lives. Typically we can change our vocation, choose who we spend our time with, what we pursue and work towards. But some things are set and there is no changing them – our family, whether we are single or married, whether we are a student or an employee.

Change What You Can

I am a huge fan of changing what you can. Of looking at your life and determining what areas need adjusting and tweaking to make them more inline with where you want to go.

For instance, work is important to me as a responsible member of society. But what work you do is a filled with so many options! Do you want to work for a big organization, work from home, work for a small business or start your own business? Know what type of work would align best with your personality and drive and then pursue that!

Constantly be on the lookout for habits you need to change and improve. We want to represent God to the best of our ability, so we must guard our words and keep a tidy appearance. Habits that others never see are important to analyze too. Who we are in secret is just as important – if not more important – than who we are in front of others.

It is each of our jobs individually to learn what God requires of us and make the necessary changes to step better into that role. Always remember you are created with a specific purpose – no one can take your place. God is counting on you – and equipping you! – to give Him your best in all things!

Accept What You Can’t

This one is enormous – accepting what you can’t change. But it’s more than just having a defeatist attitude and living a miserable life. Accepting what you can’t change takes courage and hope.

I am totally convinced that if you surrender your life and your all to God and let Him lead you, He will give you dreams of what He has ahead for you.

Perhaps you have a dream of a good husband and a family, but you haven’t met a man that shares your values. God isn’t limited by what you see or even by what the world says. This moment, this second, is simply not the season for that in your life. But the simplest thing can change that! God can use the most random, unexpected thing to shift your current season into your next season!

So whether you are a week or a decade from that, lean in to where God has you. Do this season well and accept that He has all things well in hand. You are not forgotten, you are not alone, you have an incredible opportunity that you won’t have in another season to serve God in a special way. Do it!

That’s not to say you don’t hope for and anticipate what’s ahead.

I love to pray and ask God to give me a vision for what He has for me so that I can get my hopes up! I don’t know how He is going to bring the next season into my life or even when, but I do know that this current season will pass. And when it passes I want to look back and see that I made the most of it. That I had fun, worked hard, and brought a lot of value to the community that God placed me in.

I want to know I gave God my best and loved my neighbors well. That’s not to say I don’t anticipate being a wife and a mother. That I don’t want to be loved and want to love a man. That is a special kind of love that you simply cannot have for another and I do long for that. But until that opportunity comes, I am going to love my family well and serve others well.

If I had a husband and children now, I wouldn’t be able to serve in the ways that I am able to know. The crazy, long hours wouldn’t be fair to them and I wouldn’t be able to care for them the way I would want to.

Friend, God never makes mistakes.

Don’t resist reality and wish away your life. Ecclesiastes tells us there is a time for everything, and it is important to realize sometimes it’s just not our time. Not that it won’t be our time in days ahead, it is just not currently our time. Scripture also says, this too shall pass. That means the struggles, the timeline you feel stuck in, the trials you are facing, these too shall pass.

But let me remind you that the reverse of that is true too – privileges, blessings, friendships, opportunities, etc, that you are enjoying now – these too shall pass. So lean into them, don’t resist reality! Make the most of the season you are in! You have more adventures and opportunities ahead – learning to appreciate what you have here and now will help you better appreciate new ones as they come!

Until Next Time!

Hope.
