Every task we undertake, every job we do, every interaction we participate in – it should be all for God’s glory.
I almost titled this It’s Not All About You, because that’s the message I want to remind each of us of, but rather than say what it’s not, I thought it might be better to focus on what it is all about! And that is to bring glory to God!
Adjust Your Focus
When we are focused on serving God and others, giving our best, and showing up well it really helps take pressure off of our selfish wants and desires.
I really think this is true of any of us, when we are too busy thinking of ourselves we can’t serve others well. Perhaps it is inconvenient, doesn’t work into our plans, or we simply don’t feel like it.
But this is our reminder to adjust our focus, to remember what is truly important and to remember what we are called to do. Yes, we need to take good care of ourselves, but we do that in order to serve others better and to represent God well. That is the purpose – so that we can do all that we do for God’s glory!
Get Uncomfortable
Get uncomfortable – now there’s a curious idea. Isn’t it better to be comfortable? Doesn’t one work better when in one’s comfort zone? Yes, but we need to stretch and grow! If we never get uncomfortable we’ll never go further in life!
Getting uncomfortable is just another way of leveling up or upping our game. It is taking what we do and shaking things up a bit so that we can learn to do it even better! The best things happen just outside of our comfort zone!
If you feel stuck in a rut, consider how you might change things a bit. Perhaps you need to volunteer to help a friend, apply for a part time job, visit a local who could use some encouragement, etc. This life isn’t about you and it isn’t about me either. It is about doing all for God’s Glory and letting Him use us in the lives of others!
Be Available
Be available for others. This is one of the most simple things but it can also be one of the most challenging! Being available means we have to be willing to set aside our plans and schedules for another. Now this doesn’t mean that we throw our life plans out the window in order to show up for others, but rather be aware of needs and areas you can serve.
You know the joke, “There are two types of people…”, well I think that applies here. There are two types of people – the planners and the non-planners.
The planners have a tight schedule and aren’t too excited to have those plans interrupted. The non-planners fly by the seat of their pants – which I think can make them a target for the planners because the planners think they need to give the non-planners a plan. This of course annoys the non-planners because they like the way they live life and don’t need the planners to “help” them.
I think somewhere in the middle is a good balance – halfway between planning and non-planning.
The planners are good at getting things done, but they can be uptight. The non-planners are more relaxed and less worried, though they don’t tend to be highly reliable for getting things done.
I believe a balance between the two can give us the freedom to be available to others. Not that we are racing out looking for another’s work to do while avoiding our own, but rather open to helping or even just pausing to visit with another in the midst of our day.
We are called to love our neighbors and time is certainly one of the most precious gifts we can give. God has a way of directing people – be it us He is directing to another or another He is directing to us. We must be available where He needs us.
Every Single Day
Every single day we must commit to doing all for God’s glory!
Isn’t that rather a high bar to set, you might wonder. It certainly is, but it is our duty! Christ left us with two commands – 1) Love the Lord your God 2) and your neighbor as yourself.
Our duty as Christians is simple and yet complex at the same time. But I’ll remind us again, this life isn’t about us. It isn’t about what our human nature wants or feels like. Rather it is about what God, the Creator of all things and Giver of life, has called us to do!
And just like appreciative, grateful children want to honor their parents, I want to honor and reflect God well! Do you know Scripture says when we honor Him, He honors us?! Not because He has to but because like a good parent He likes to give His children good gifts! What an amazing blessing!
So every single day, let us do all that we do for God’s glory!
Until Next Time!
Hope.
