Summer Projects

Summer Projects blog

I don’t know about you, but I love to plan a few Summer projects! Work typically slows down just a bit (at least in the retail world) so I have just a bit less going on.

I thought it might be fun to discuss some Summer projects! Whether you are super crafty and talented like most of my sisters or just human (like me!) I thought I might direct you towards some doable projects that you might really enjoy!

Paint Your Room

Last 4th of July my sister helped me paint my room. We have lived here for a few years now and been working full time, so it was down to me to just decide to take the time to do it. And do you know, I’m so glad I did?!

I love neutral colors (or as my sister calls it “not-a-color”, haha!). Neutral colors to me are just peaceful and relaxing. My furniture is painted and ranges in color from black to white, so I picked a pale aqua for my walls. It is gorgeous!

This 4th of July my sister and I painted her room! She has furniture in all colors – blue, green, white, orange, etc – so she picked a medium gray for her wall. It is gorgeous!

We had a lot of fun painting and now we basically have an Independence Day tradition! I guess I’ll have to buy a house within the next year so we have a new room to paint next 4th of July! I’ve often dreamed of buying a historic house, so I guess we’ll just see what opportunities present themselves!

Benjamin Moore’s Historical Collection is one of my favorite places to look through paint colors: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/historical-collection I especially like the color Revere Pewter – it is a perfect neutral!

Choose a Sewing Project

My grandmother taught all of us to sew and I am so glad she did! Sewing is one of my favorite things to do and I really don’t do it often enough. (But honestly, isn’t that part of what makes it so enjoyable – when it is a special treat?!)

As much as I love to sew, I have a confession to make. The prep that goes in before a project isn’t my favorite. The cutting, measuring, trimming, etc. Choosing the project and materials is great fun, but the actual prep work takes me so terribly long that it just really isn’t my favorite part of the job. But depending on my project, that’s where precuts come in!

Precuts are coordinating pieces of fabric that are already precut into specific sizes. Each size has a special name – Layer Cakes, Jelly Rolls, Charm Packs, etc. (https://www.southernfabric.com/ is my favorite place to shop precuts!) You can get books full of project ideas with using these precuts. Or even an internet search will introduce some lovely ideas!

I am currently making a braided rug using jelly roll precuts. True, I could have cut my own fabric, but I had a few jelly rolls already and thought it would be quite fun to make a braided rug!

Even if you are not super crafty, take a chance and try a project! Think about what you would try if you could do anything, do your research, buy some quality materials, and then give it your best shot!

Try Something New

Maybe another Summer Project that you might want to consider is trying something new! Have you always wanted to take ballroom dancing? Sign up! Perhaps you want to take voice lessons – go for it! Are there areas of interest close to where you live that you never go see? Schedule it in!

God has surrounded us with beauty and delights in us enjoying this life! Yes, we have work to do and we should do it, but there is so much more to life than just work! I love how Psalm 23 says that the Lord leads us beside quiet waters and restores our soul. That reminds me that it is okay – and even good – to take a break from the hustle and bustle of work and general busyness!

I know for myself personally, taking the opportunity to get away a little from work helps me work all the better when I return! There is no victory in burnout!

I hope these ideas have inspired you to enjoy life all the more! God has made a beautiful life for us – it is up to us to see the beauty and appreciate all He so generously gives!

Until Next Time!

Hope.
