Get on the Rig

Get on the Rig

Get on the rig, words from a powerful reminder that I wanted to share with you, but first let me share a bit of a back story.

We go back 20 years, back to the Twin Towers, the day they came down. Father Mychal Judge was the chaplain of a New York City fire station. Upon the attack on the towers, the Father raced inside knowing full well the danger. There he stood inside, praying fervently. Sadly, the collapse of the buildings killed the chaplain.

The day before he died, he spoke at the dedication of a New York City fire station.

“You do what God called you to do. You show up, you put one foot in front of the other. Get on the rig and go out and you do the job, which is a mystery. You have no idea what God has calling for you. You have no idea where you’re going, and in some cases you don’t know why. But He needs you. He needs me. He needs all of us.”

This speech resonated with something inside of me and brought tears to my eyes. These words could so easily apply to my life and my work, and yours too.

Do what God calls you to do. Show up. Put one foot in front of the other.

We don’t always, or even often, have all the answers. But when God calls us to something, it is our duty to give Him our very best knowing that He will equip us well on the way.

Get on the rig and do your job, which is a mystery.

How often do we feel uncertain about what lies ahead? Whether you consider things close at hand or far in the distance.

Only time will tell is something I’ve found myself repeating more than once recently. But I can show up, I can put one foot in front of the other, and I can step forward in faith knowing that God guides me every step of the way.

There is a certain magic, a certain adventure, in not having all the answers. And there is a certain confidence in knowing Who does have all the answers!

You have no idea what God has calling for you, no idea where you’re going, and in some cases you don’t know why. But He needs you. He needs me. He needs all of us.

I like to be needed and I think most people like to be needed also. I even believe that God needs to be needed.

He has a plan and a purpose for my life that only I can fill and I love knowing that. And the same is true of you! He has created us for very specific reasons and what joy we experience when we serve Him well!

We may not know what the end result will be, or perhaps we have a glimpse at the goal just no idea how the interim will work out. But we can press on, putting one foot in front of the other knowing that He will guide us every step of the way!

Get on the Rig

May God fill you with a new enthusiasm for your work. May He encourage your heart and fill you with joy as you pursue what He has for you!

Until Next Time!

Hope.
