We read in the Bible that all things work together for God’s people. This promise is specifically and exclusively for those who love God and are called according to His purpose.
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. – Romans 8:28
I love this promise and I remind myself of it often. If I will be patient and not worry, somehow (and I know exactly Who orchestrates it!) things just work out. I don’t need to spend time fretting or worrying. God’s got the details, I simply have to follow His lead.
All Things
All things means all things, small and large details alike. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m a girl or because I’m human, but sometimes I find myself trying to handle what I see as the smaller, simpler things on my own. This can go one of two ways, success or catastrophe (okay, so not everything is quite that extreme, but you get the idea!).
I cannot help but think that perhaps the small things are just as, if not more so, important to God! It is said that a little leaven leavens the whole loaf. It would seem to follow that the little things in life trickle out to the major things, wouldn’t it?
Looking to God for major things is second nature to me. I know ultimately things will work out however He has planned them so I pray for the patience to wait for His answers, wisdom to see the plan He is arranging, and flexibility so that I don’t resist His very best for me.
This I know, if I will surrender my affections and lean in to His perfect will, all things will work together for my good. And when God says all things He means all things! When trials and struggles come, which they always will, I can’t help but think of the verse that says “what you meant for harm, God used for good”. God can turn any situation into a blessing, and in the long run though we may not see it in the moment, every situation is a blessing. It is shaping and finetuning our character, helping us to become more fully who God has created us to be.
A Way of Working Out
Things have a way of working out. They just do! But this is not luck or a happy accident that we can attribute this to, but rather an awesome God! He’s got the details, He knows the situation, the stories, everything behind the scenes. He has us in the palm of His hand and He will never forsake us.
And what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? – Micah 6:8b
I love that verse. It sums up so beautifully our role in this life that He has created for us!
May we, in all things and in all areas, seek to give Him our best. In our interactions with others, in our quiet moments alone, and while working the late shift may we remember that He is always with us, watching and making a way for us.
No task is too simple or too complex to keep us from doing our best. If you are simply peeling potatoes, peel them with gratitude for the Lord. And if you are setting out jewelry at Tiffany’s, do your job with enthusiasm and joy in the Lord! Any and all tasks can and should be done to the best of our ability and to bring glory to God!
Every single thing in life leads you to the next thing. Do your work remarkably well as if you were doing it directly for God. He will bless your efforts and direct your steps.
Until Next Time!
Hope.
