Even When You Cannot See

Even When You Cannot See

It takes a special kind of faith to believe even when you cannot see.

As a child, I remember I used to worry about not being able to see. It was as if a fear lurked over me just a bit, a fear of losing my eyesight. I physically depend on my vision a lot – for my balance, for dexterity, etc, and I always have. And to lose that capability would be crippling. Not that I had any valid reason to fear going blind, just the realization of just how much I counted on my eyes was incredible.

That all made the Bible that much more real to me when Paul talks about faith, believing even when you can’t see. And this faith is powerful, especially when the world is trying to fill us with doubts and uncertainties!

As the saying goes, we may not know the future, but we know Who holds the future!

Take these words to heart. There is so much truth in them. May they encourage and inspire us, filling us with new courage.

No one knows what the future will hold, but we do have promises from God and His Word that are priceless and so important to remember! Let’s consider just a few:

  • God always makes a way for His people.
  • God promises His people food, clothing, and shelter.
  • Good always overcomes evil. Light always overcomes darkness.
  • The enemy may be big and frightening, but God is always larger.
  • In the end, God wins!

This is only the beginning

The promises above are true and meaningful, but they don’t even begin to scratch the surface of all the promises God has made us in His Word. I challenge you to open your Bible and start reading and as you read, make a list of all the promises God makes His people.

Read Hebrew 11, the faith chapter, for a summary of notable men and women of faith. Then go read their entire stories. You will find that their faith was blind faith, just as ours is today. They didn’t have their stories compiled in a Bible to read like we do. But rather they had the opportunity to practice faith in God.

Even when you cannot see

It’s easy to believe when you can see something in progress, the evidence is right before you – no second guessing necessary. But what about when we can’t see? When we would love confirmation, encouragement, reassurance? That is the most important time to hold fast, to remember the promises God has given us.

One thing I love is that we typically have something we need to be doing. Be it vitally important or even mundane, if we do our work unto God, He usually has something lined up for us to be doing while we wait for the culmination of His bigger promises. When we are stuck in the waiting, it is so important that we gainfully employ ourselves. Frantically searching for signs and clues isn’t going to get us any closer any faster.

As Habakkuk 2:3 says, “even if it seems slow in coming, don’t be discouraged. It will surely come and not be delayed.” This reminder is priceless to me. No amount of impatience or uncertainty will speed God’s timing. This challenges me to search for peace and calm as I wait for Him!

I also love Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Read those words and really let them sink in. When doubts and worry come and tap you on the shoulder, don’t listen! Lean in to the promises of God – He will prosper you, not harm you, give you a hope, give you a future! Notice this verse doesn’t just say protect you from harm, but rather not harm you! That is powerful!

I pray that these words encourage and inspire you! May they bless your heart and fuel your courage! Never give up!

Until Next Time!

Hope.
