Happy Spring! Welcome to warmer weather, longer evenings and a fresh new season!
Spring is one of my most favorite times of the year! I love how the crisp mornings give way to warmer days! The light breeze that blows through and refreshes. And the blossoms and blooms that color the yards and fields. It’s just so refreshing and lovely!
God has designed a beautiful place for us, hasn’t He?!
Isn’t it interesting how over time we develop an interest and delight in things that we used to overlook or not particularly care for?
I remember growing up, Spring wasn’t my favorite. Spring meant weeding and yard work and I didn’t look forward to or even particularly like either one. Back then, it meant getting hot and as a result getting a headache. Not exactly the cheeriest or most desirable of times.
But fast forward to today, something has changed. Now I enjoy being outside. Yard work, raking, washing vehicles, weeding – I’ve actually grown to enjoy it. There’s just something about being outside. Breathing fresh air, feeling the sunshine, enjoying the breeze.
And it makes me wonder, why did I resist it so much? Why did I try my best to get out of the yard work and weeding?
Changing perspectives
A lot of one’s attitude and outlook (ideally) changes as one grows up. I was younger then and not as intelligent as I might be. If someone my age then mentioned these struggles to me now I would remind them to wear a hat in the sun and to be sure to drink plenty of water.
But back then, though I’m sure I was encouraged to wear a hat, I didn’t get it. I rarely wore one and as a result wound up with bad headaches. And getting water while trying to work outside was just inconvenient. Besides, how keen are kids on water anyway when sweet tea is an option? Take my word for it, just drink the water!
Now, many years later, I enjoy outside work. I enjoy raking, washing vehicles, and just being outside. It is so refreshing and delightful! Part of this special enjoyment might come from the fact that my work is primarily inside now, or maybe it is because I finally get it. I’ve learned (and continue to learn) how to truly delight in where I am and what I have to do.
Don’t get me wrong – not everything is easy and straightforward, in fact there can be many hang ups. But when I remember to prepare well for the work that I have, I find the order and direction seems to be laid out neatly before me. Every step leads to the next. It is incredible and so exciting to see this! I wish I had realized this sooner.
What about now?
Perhaps with this lovely, new season you too can be refreshed! Are there things that get to you – things that you avoid and would wish away if you could? Most likely these things are in your life to teach you something. Refresh your perspective and look at them with new eyes.
Perhaps you are learning to be a blessing to others, maybe you are developing patience, or it could simply be that you are developing good sense (like hydrating while working outside). Whatever your lesson, opportunity, or situation, make the most of it. You’ll never regret pursuing excellence!
Happy Spring, y’all! May this new season refresh and inspire you!
Until next time!
Hope.
