Good morning and happy Wednesday! Tell me, do you enjoy listening to music? I certainly do!
music: any sweet, pleasing, or harmonious sounds or sound
I just recently replaced my laptop, and though the new laptop is fabulous – the speakers on it are truly lacking! Lacking in such a way that even my cell phone speaker sounds better!
Why would I mention my new laptop with the lackluster speakers, you may wonder? Well, because I like to listen to music! My work typically has me at the computer – and having lovely music playing inspires me!
What Kind of Music Do You Listen To?
The music we listen to has an effect on us. We must be alert to the lyrics so that we are sure to be a good representative of God! Many popular songs have inappropriate language or ideas in them.
As a Christian, the type of music we listen to is vitally important! We are representing God and we know from His Word how he feels about inappropriate language and ideas.
To ignore a little impropriety in music makes it all the easier to ignore a little more … and that impropriety adds up far too quickly! This is a slippery slope that we must carefully avoid!
So does this mean that we should live under a rock and never turn on the radio? On the contrary! Just determine to be alert to the words that are put to music. Some music is incredibly beautiful or even nice and peppy, but add the wrong words and the song is ruined!
(One way that I try to be alert to the music I listen to is by deciding if it would be appropriate to listen to with my nephews and nieces. Children will repeat everything they hear. Would I feel embarrassed for them to go around singing the music I listen to?)
Music Recommendations
Here are some artists and songs that put a little extra pep in my step! I’m always adding new favorites as I discover them too! Being attentive to the music you listen to doesn’t mean listening to dull, uninspiring music, rather it inspires creativity in discovering great music to enjoy!
Michael Buble, Frank Sinatra and Ray Conniff are some of my favorite artists to listen to when I am in the mood for upbeat, yet easy listening music! A few songs I particularly enjoy are:
- Haven’t Met You Yet by Michael Buble – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AJmKkU5POA
- Ma, He’s Making Eyes at Me by Ray Conniff – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0bAwy81MXI
- I Love You by Frank Sinatra – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kuMpkfWSco
While doing office work, such as finances, I enjoy listening to music without lyrics such as The Piano Guys and William Joseph. These are some of my favorites:
- Story of My Life by The Piano Guys – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yET4p-r2TI8
- Butterflies and Hurricanes by William Joseph – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6685cdSFG8

I don’t typically listen to modern Christian music. Though I am not opposed to it and I am familiar with some songs, I’m just not inclined to look it up. I simply prefer hymns to modern Christian music – somehow they seem more respectful and inspiring. Some of my favorite hymns are It is Well, Trust and Obey, and Blessed Assurance. I really appreciate how Piano Guys incorporate hymns into some of their songs!
What about you? What are some of your favorite songs or singers? I’d love it if you shared!
Until Next Time!
Hope.
PS. I also enjoy Deanna Durbin’s music – but I really recommend watching some of her movies before looking her up! She’s quite enchanting and gave me a whole new appreciation for classical songs!
