Life and Fashion
Life and fashion have a surprisingly close connection. I hadn’t really considered it until I was working on a small booklet for my clothing company. You see, I am a personal stylist and I love helping women discover their style. I only offer consulting locally, so I began considering how I could help simplify fashion and style for women that I might not have the chance to personally meet. How could I help them solve the great mystery of style? My answer came in the form of a creating a booklet. It’s not quite finished yet, but I am excited with the progress that I have made!
As I worked on this booklet, it struck me that, although I am working on a book about style, it might as well be a book about life. There are so many struggles that we ladies face with fashion that we need help or direction with, that could be equated with life in general!
Discover Your Style
When I am first meeting a client, I like to ask questions such as
- What brought you here? Are you hoping for inspiration? Are you just plain tired of “not having anything to wear”? (I like to know their why.)
- What are your goals? (I want to help them realize the ideas and preferences that they have.)
- What image do you have of yourself in your mind’s eye? If all was said and done, this consultation were completed, money wasn’t a factor, and you could easily find and ascertain styles that complimented you, what would this look like? (Ladies often don’t realize that the wardrobe and style that they dream of isn’t as far out of reach as they seem to think!)
In order for me to help women discover their style, they have to give me answers – the answers that they came to me looking for! Isn’t that interesting?
And isn’t that similar to life? We all have questions, ideas, and thoughts circling our mind, and yet we don’t often pause to discover what we could do with them if we just stopped and answered them! I believe God gave us those questions so that we would pursue the plan that He has for us! Because without questions to answer or mysteries to solve, we would have no drive or purpose in life.
Discover Your Life Purpose
If we were to go over the questions from above and remove the style perspective, they might look like this:
- What brought you here? Perhaps your “here” is to this moment, to this article, or even to the particular hang up that you find yourself mulling over. To me, realizing how I came to where I am, looking back and seeing all those puzzle pieces fit together, is just awesome and amazing! There is a reason for everything. And I do mean everything!
- What are your goals? It may seem obvious, but you won’t be able to achieve success or contentment if you don’t figure out what they mean to you.
- What image do you have of yourself in your mind’s eye? Think about it for a minute. Perhaps you will base the answer of this question off the answer of the previous question. Or even vice versa. Only you know the mission that God has placed inside you – the purpose that only you are capable of filling! Realize it! Own it! And then become it!
Were you able to answer the questions above? Did you have specific, confident answers? Or did you only have a hint of an idea of an answer? As you learn the answers to these questions you will find that some days your answers are certain and absolute, while other days, when life begins to wear you down or maybe you lose your spark of enthusiasm, you will scramble for the answers.
But don’t worry! The truth of the matter is, whether we are full of enthusiasm and raring to go or tired and uncertain, God is still God. He is unchanging! His plans and purpose for us are not contingent on our present state of mind. Just as I shared in a previous post, He is the source of our strength and He will help us accomplish what He has for us to do!
Until Next Time!
Hope.
